Bathroom renovation that pays for itself in 2013
Bathroom is very important part of house. If your house is 5-6 old you must try to renovate to increase its value at same time save water, energy, air quality.
Here are some cool ideas on renovating Bathroom to save money:
1) Install energy Efficient Showerhead
Choose a showerhead with a built-in aerator to save money on water bills and water heating. Look for showerheads that consume 5.7 litres/minute (1.5 gallons/minute) or less.
2) Install Low-flow Faucet
Send less wastewater down the drain with high-efficiency faucet that consumes 7.5 litres/minute (2 gallons/minute) or less.
3) Install High-efficiency Toilet
You’ll save money by upgrading to a toilet that promotes water conservation. A dual-flush model uses 6 litres of water to flush solids and 3 to 4.2 litres to flush liquids. A high-efficiency model uses 4.8 litres per flush or less.
4) Use Recycled Paint
Made of 80 percent recycled paint, the product is also low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which mean it’s better for your indoor air and your family’s health. Return leftover paint back to your Rona store for recycling.
5) Energy Star Bathroom Fan
An Energy Star–certified bathroom exhaust fan uses at least 50 percent less energy than standard models. Run a fan for at least 20 minutes after every shower to extract moisture from the air.
6) Flooring Underlayment
This foam underlayment is made from 100 percent pre-consumer polyethylene. It reduces heating bills by minimizing heat loss through the floor.
7) Energy Star Lighting
Choose a light fixture that works with LED lighting or CFLs to save energy in the bathroom. Take spent CFLs back to your Rona location for safe disposal.
8) Sustainable Wood
Add character and finishing touches to a bathroom design with details like a chair rail, window casings or door trim made from FSC wood products made with no added formaldehyde.
9) Organic Curtains
Add healthy softness to a bathroom with a certified organic cotton curtain over a window. Or try this as a shower curtain. Just be sure to add a liner, preferably one that’s free of vinyl to protect indoor air quality.
